ARTIST STATEMENT
In my work, I combine my passion for photography and knowledge gained from a degree in engineering in order to create digital artwork that communicates feelings through mathematics.
Although my images are based on mathematical algorithms that follows preset steps envisioned in my mind, they are abstract enough to allow individual interpretation. The focus of my work is to make graphics that can capture the viewer's attention and allow them to leave reality even for just an instant to venture into the visuals and embrace the emotions that each of my piece holds.
Over the past 15 years I have experimented different media and techniques ranging from video editing, to photography, to scans of meaningful objects, to digital and interactive graphics. Although, in some cases these experiments have led to unfinished works, they are waiting to be part of a bigger project in which the larger message will take form from the ability of each element to evoke emotions.
The human versus technology game is at the base of each of my work. My algorithms picture the most beautiful things we can’t see: feelings and emotions. Although the final images may appear chaotic and busy, the creation process follows a very linear path. I begin with a concept often inspired by an event in my life, yet I may not know how the piece will look at the end. As I start writing code the image takes form in my mind but doesn’t visualize on the screen up until I write the last line of code.
I sometimes have created images that don’t resemble the one I have in my mind due to bugs in my script. With time I have learned how to consider this route even though is not my main form of expression. In fact, with digital media being so forgiving and offering so many options for explorations, the art is also in knowing when your work is complete.
From a technical standpoint, I feel that a computer machine is like a human being. If you give something good in input, you get something good in output. I feed machines with my most personal thoughts and confessions, and in return, they allow me to express what is possible in no other medium.Choose this theme to customize and add content to this page.
